Winter weather advisory issued for western Albany County
ALBANY COUNTY — The western part of Albany County will be under winter weather advisory from 7 a.m. on Friday until 1 a.m. on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
“Wintry mixed precipitation” is expected, including snow, sleet, and freezing rain with 2 to 4 inches of snow predicted along with a tenth- to a quarter-inch of ice.
Snow during the day on Friday will likely be wet and heavy before becoming lighter and drier Friday night.
“Plan on slippery road conditions,” the weather service says. “The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commutes.”
The weather service also issued these precautions: “Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving. If you are going outside, watch your first few steps taken on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways. These surfaces could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.”
The chance of precipitation on Friday is 100 percent, the weather service says, with snow and sleet in the early part of the day, and all freezing rain expected between 4 and 7 p.m. followed by snow showers possibly mixed with freezing rain and sleet between 7 and 10 p.m., then snow showers after 10 p.m.
The low Saturday is expected to be around 25. Saturday will have a high of 34 degrees with a 50-percent chance of snow.
Sunday, too, has a 50-percent chance of snow with the high near 30 degrees.
