Government should not solve free-market problem

To the Editor:

I have been privileged to live in Berne for the last 20 years. While I don’t ride ATVs, I do have sympathy for the enthusiasts who want more space to ride their recreational vehicles. However, I have even stronger sympathies for my neighbors who would rather not have ATVs on the town roads of Berne.

The free market has not responded to the needs of these ATV enthusiasts. There are no ATV recreation parks open to the public in this area.

As such, it is time for ATV riders to take personal responsibility for their decision to buy a machine that they are not content to use on their own property. It is an improper use of government authority to solve a problem that the free market refuses to address.
