Founding board member Peter Evans explains how to become a Helderberg Family and Community Organization sponsor.

To the Editor:

About 50 adults and youth attended an open house on Feb. 7 to launch the newly formed Helderberg Family and Community Organization. Among the attendees were two representatives from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, a representative from Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara’s office, and Albany County Legislator Travis Stevens.

Founding board members, Maryellen Gillis, Nathan Elble, Peter Evans, Maria DeLucia-Evans, Carli Elble, Sarah Pasquini, Dan Mosbey, and Darcy Cyr shared the mission, structure, sponsorship opportunities, and membership/volunteer roles with attendees.

The primary goal of the HFCO is to connect youth and families with educational, cultural, and athletic opportunities. Our programs are designed to provide opportunities for children to explore, expand and discover new skills and talents.

Funding for our programs is received through donations, grants, fundraisers, and partnerships with local town and community organizations. All monies received directly support the programs and operational expenses of the HFCO.

To receive a membership or sponsorship application, or to join our email listserv for meeting and event announcements, please email us . Also find us on Facebook by searching @Helderberfco to follow along as we post about our activities and meetings.

Save the date for our first organizational meeting on Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Knox Reformed Church. We invite you to join us in creating programs and events as we build a bright future for our children. All are welcome.
