WESTERLO

— There is not much news these days. The roads are so bad people have to stay at home.

— The sick in the village are improving at present. There are several cases of grip.

BROOKSIDE, SOUTH BERNE

The champion checker players of this  neighborhood meet regularly at D. B. Skinner’s. F. H. Filkins took a two-day course at Albany the past week to come back home and beat P. B. Northrup five straight games.

ESPERANCE

While coasting on the hill near the Esperance depot school house, Bessie Fuller fell from the sleigh and her companion ran over her arm. The arm is believed to be broken but not seriously.

DUANE
Herbert Wood received a fish weighing 11 pounds last week, shipped by parcel post from relatives at Indian Lake.

DUNNSVILLE
Willard D. Tygert, who has been seriously ill, does not improve very fast. The farmers of the community generously gave him their assistance and drew the ice to fill his ice house.

VILLAGE NOTES

People in the vicinity of Helderberg avenue were startled by a loud crash, about noon time last Saturday. The weight of snow on the roof of the barn on John Severson’s property caused the roof to cave in. Boards flew in all directions. Almost the entire front of the second story was ripped off. Leslie Goff, who kept his car in the lower part of the barn, rushed to the scene expecting to find the car demolished, but was agreeably surprised to find it had not been injured.

SOUTH THOMPSON’S LAKE

Owing to the snow storms, bad roads and sickness, there have been no services at the church in four Sundays.

VOORHEESVILLE

Miss MIldred Pope, Library organizer from the State University, together with her assistant, Miss Unger of Albany, were visitors at the Voorheesville Library on Monday afternoon.

Additional Altamont News

Altamont Hose Co. No. 1 will hold its annual Firemen’s ball at the Masonic Hall on Friday evening, February 23rd. Dancing will begin at 8:30 o’clock. Rogers’ orchestra will furnish the music. This annual event is one that everybody should support by their presence or with their dollars, even if you are not a dancer. The Altamont Hose Company renders valuable service whenever called upon and is ready to lend a helping hand on all occasions when fire becomes master.

THOMPSON’S LAKE
— Franklin Pitcher and grandson, David Sagendorf, have both been ill with hard colds. Several others in the neighborhood are suffering with severe colds.

— Farmers are hoping for warmer weather in order to draw potatoes.

— There is a dearth of news. If it wasn’t for the ice business this would be a dead place.
