Why is ‘state of the town’ a paid event?

To the Editor:

I noticed in your paper that our local politicians are having a “state of the town” meeting at the Funny Bone.

I am curious why it’s a paid event.

I would think they would want to freely share their ideas with the residents.

And — is there a way they would have it on Zoom? So much easier to attend.
