Robert Lane

MEDUSA — Robert E. Lane, a veteran who liked to spend time with his family, died on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at the Community Hospice at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. He was 89.

He was born on Jan. 7, 1930 in Queens to the late Edward and Frances Ulrich Lane. After he graduated from high school, he joined the military and was honorably discharged in 1953.

Mr. Lane lived in Woodside, New York, then in New Jersey, and then in Pennsylvania, where he worked as an engraver for Deb-Kay in Harrisburg. After retirement, he moved to Medusa.

He was a proud member of the Greenville American Legion Post 291. He enjoyed playing poker, story telling, and spending time with his family. He was a talented wood craftsman, and carved small wooden soldiers. He loved music, especially Big Band and Frank Sinatra; and he loved food and sweets.

He is survived by his children, Robert Lane and his wife, Susan, Jacqueline Rauf and her husband, Jeff, and Daniel Lane; by his grandchildren, Jeremy, Jason, Jamie, April, and Joseph; and by his great-grandchildren, Julianna, Victoria, Lauren, Jacob, Matthew, Michael, Hannah, Markus, and Emily.

His parents, Edward and Frances Ulrich Lane, died before him, as did his wife, Catherine Horgan Lane; his son, Donald Lane; and his grandson, Raymond.

After a private cremation, a graveside service will be held in the spring. Mourners may leave condolences online at ajcunninghamfh.com.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenville American Legion Post 291, Post Office Box 132, Greenville, NY 12083.
