Altamont Woman Wins

First Prize in Contest

Mrs. Elwood G. Blessing of Altamont has received a letter from the advertising department of the Pompeian company of Cleveland that she has been awarded the first prize of $500 in a country-wide contest for a title for their 1926 art panel.

Unusual thought and originality were found in the thousands of answers sent in, and of them all Mrs. Blessing’s title was selected as the best. The title suggested by Mrs. Blessing is the following:
“Moments that will be treasured be

In the mint of memory.”

Here is the letter telling of Mrs. Blessing’s good fortune, or to put it more correctly, well deserved reward:

REAL WINTER WEATHER

ENJOYED THIS WEEK
As you were receiving last week’s Enterprise on Saturday morning your postman was experiencing the pleasure of traveling through the first real snow of the winter. Early in the morning about 10 to 12 inches fell and luckily it stayed there, as no wind followed the storm.

There has been quite an ice harvest from nearby ponds and streams. The young folks were enjoying skating until the snow came, which also slowed up the ice harvesting for a time.

BERNE BOY, CENTURY

OLD, CELEBRATES

Edward Denison, of Cobleskill, bugler of the 134th Schoharie County regiment in the Civil war, passed his 101st birthday Monday of last week.

His friends sent him congratulations and remembrances. He has an excellent memory and enjoys recounting his experiences and other incidents. He enlisted at Schoharie on September 5, 1862, while a resident of Berne, where he was born. He was made company bugler and was with Sherman in his march to the sea.

Mr. Denison has resided in Cobleskill for a number of years, living with his niece, Mrs. A. Hallenbeck. James Monroe was president of the United States and DeWitt Clinton governor of New York when he was born, so he has lived during the terms of all but four of the presidents and all of New York’s governors. His secret for long life has been “Good habits, moderation in indulgence, and faith in the Great Commander.”
