Margaret S. ‘Peg’ Filkins

Margaret S. Filkins

WESTERLO – Margaret Filkins died at her home on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019. She was 95.

Mrs. Filkins was born on Jan. 26, 1923, in Hoboken, New Jersey, to the late Leonard Sr. and May Daley Storm. Her family moved to Westerlo when she was a child and she graduated from Greenville Central School in 1941.

After graduating, Mrs. Filkins went to work for General Electric for five years, before becoming a clerk at the Westerlo Post Office, where she worked for 44 years, retiring in 1990.

On June 16, 1946, she married Clyde L. Filkins, who her family in a tribute described as “the love of her life.” They were married for 61 years, the marriage ending only with Mr. Filkins’s death in 2007.

Mrs. Filkins enjoyed playing cards, and played twice a week with many friends. When she was younger, she also traveled, camped, and snowmobiled locally and all over the county.

“She was loved by everyone and was known for her generosity, her compassion, and for her knowledge of life, which positively affected a lot of people,” her family wrote in a tribute. “Peg will be remembered especially for her spunk.”
