ALTAMONT — Harry Jackson L’Hommedieu, an aviator and an architect, died on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013.  He was 86.

GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland Historical Society’s Sept. 19 meeting features another of our Civil War Sesquicentennial programs when Dr. Matthew Farina discusses “Civil War Medicine: Myth and Reality.”

GUILDERLAND — Scouts from St. Madeleine Sophie’s Boy Scout Troop 50 kept themselves active over the summer. In July, the boys attended Camp Wakpominee.

Bryan Best, who is running for Guilderland’s receiver of taxes on the Republican line, also wants to secure the Independence Party line and, along with his fellow Republicans, has launched a write-in campaign for Tuesday’s primary.

We have no problem with that. It’s always good to give voters a choice.

A small country community named Knowersville was developing around the railroad station following the Civil War. With rail access, it was becoming a summer retreat for families from New York and Albany.

There were several hotels by the railway and a resort hotel on the hill beyond named Kushaqua.

The pressure is on for the defending Class AA champions from Guilderland, and the girls got off to a good start against Bethlehem.
