There were not many hits for Guilderland or Columbia during Monday's softball game, but Columbia hit one that counted, and early.

GUILDERLAND — Nestled just off Route 20 in Guilderland, rows of statues wind around a building and overflow behind it into a scape of small fishing boys, jesters, cats, and busts of ancient Greek deities.

As we turned off of the main road we drove up a short driveway to the security station. A gentleman in a crisp white shirt, black tie and pin-striped trousers came out and with his clipboard in hand and gave us a very warm greeting.

GUILDERLAND — Father Peter Young will testify in front of a grand jury, in Schenectady, on April 28, regarding the alleged misappropriation of grant funds in his organization.

GUILDERLAND — An audit by the state comptroller’s office states that the Westmere Fire District has failed to submit annual update documents for 2011 and 2012.

GUILDERLAND — James T. Wilson, a veteran and dedicated fireman, died peacefully on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Albany. He was 88.

Mr. Wilson was born in Albany, the son of the late James T. and Jessie A. Roberts Wilson Sr.

Falling rain wasn't the only issue for Guilderland baseball last Friday.

"It's really a philosophical question," says Principal Thomas Lutsic of boosting grades for students in advanced courses, and school leaders are divided on the issue.

While wandering up and down the aisles at the grocery store today, I stopped in the health products area and was reminded of a comment that was made, several years ago. I have told the story before, but this part of it was driven home on this trip to the grocers. 

Vincent Wolanin emphasized that he had already reduced the density of the complex from 248 units to 210 units, eliminated entry and exit points onto Johnston Road, and provided extra buffer space between the construction zones and neighboring houses.
