Guilderland

WESTERLO

Mrs. John Fergerson of White Plains, N.Y., occupied the pulpit of the Reformed church Sunday morning June 4th with a very interesting and pleasing address. Surely those who listened to Mrs. Fergerson could not help but wish to hear her again.

LAST WEEK’S RAIN

Developer Armand Quadrini recently submitted an application to the town of Guilderland proposing a Planned Unit Development on five parcels from 2298 to 2314 Western Ave., including the site of the former Master Cleaners, currently designated a brownfield by the state’s Department of Conservation.

Numbers of arrests in Guilderland, which had dropped in 2020 — for juveniles (48 in 2020 to 60 in 2021), drunk driving (33 to 50 in 2021), traffic summons (785 more than double to 1,620 in 2021), property-damage crashes (872 in 2020 to 1,033 in 2021) — all rebounded last year after plummeting during the start of the pandemic.

On Thursday and Friday, June 2 and 3, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Voorheesville and Guilderland track athletes competed in the two-day Section 2 state qualifier event for this weekend's NYSPHSAA state meet in Cicero.

On Wednesday, June 1, as the Guilderland boys’ lacrosse team looked to win back-to-back Class A sectional titles, they had to go against top-seeded Shenendehowa. Guilderland started off slow, endured a passing downpour, rallied, and fell short with a 15-to-9 loss.

The Altamont Fair will be able to exhibit poultry after all.
The bans on live poultry shows, exhibitions, auctions, sales, meets, and swaps in New York State have been lifted.

GUILDERLAND — When Emma Harbeck competed this past weekend for the Miss New York title in the Miss America competition, she sang the song “Reflection” from the 1998 Disney film based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan.

Mulan spares her grandfather by disguising herself as a boy so she can become a warrior in his stead.

Jerry Crisci of Altamont has donated his collection of nearly 50 milk bottles to the fair.

On June 1, Guilderland’s zoning board said Town Center plaza could no longer use its LED sign for three displays that were not previously approved by the board.

The musical combines various fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm and will be performed by the Altamont Elementary School fifth-grade class to a live audience on June 10 and 11 at 7 p.m. and June 12 at 1 p.m. at the Guilderland High School auditorium.
