Taxes up in New Scotland and down in Guilderland

VOORHEESVILLE — School tax rates for property owners in the Voorheesville School District are going up in the town of New Scotland and down in the towns of Guilderland and Berne.

GUILDERLAND –– With one look at Guilderland’s pre-season football practice on Tuesday, it was easy to see a winning attitude.

ALTAMONT — Fringed hooves pounded out deliberate circles in the center ring at the fairgrounds on Tuesday.

Dozens competitors from around the state rode behind their Clydesdales and Percherons, vying for ribbons.

GUILDERLAND — Irene Siebert, a quiet and gentle woman, had a quiet celebration for her 103rd birthday on Tuesday.

She was born in Albany on Aug. 17, 1907 and grew up on a farm on Pine Lane off of Rapp Road.

ALTAMONT — Twenty-seven years ago, Bill and Lotte Carpenter started the Midway Caravan’s Backyard Circus on the Altamont fairgrounds. 

Today, it is one of the longest-running circuses in the country.
