Voorheesville results

Just over 500 voters turned out to pass the school and library budgets in Voorheesville and fill three uncontested board seats.

The $23 million district budget, with 0.5 percent reduction in the tax levy, passed with over three-quarters of voters supporting it.

GUILDERLAND — Timothy Horan, a 30-year career teacher set to retire at the end of the school year, won over 25 percent of the vote, making him the clear frontrunner in a five-way race for three school board seats.

“Real good night,” said Horan after the tally was announced Tuesday night.

GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland Public Library’s board of trustees has approved an operating budget for 2017-18 of $4,038,583, based on a tax levy of $3,689,217.

The Length of Service Award Program, or LOSAP, was voted, 54 to 2, to be discontinued for Voorheesville Area Ambulance Service members. VAAS stopped functioning on Oct. 15, and the vote allows members to stop paying fees for a service they no longer have.

After a “yes” vote on Tuesday, renovation of the McKownville firehouse is expected to begin in the spring.

Because of the state tax freeze, villagers will not see their taxes rise over the next few years as a result of any increase to firefighters' pensions, according to the Voorheesville village clerk.

Detailed plans haven't been drawn up yet, but David Messercola, chairman of the board of fire commissioners, expects construction will begin next summer.
