John Bennett Mackay learned last month that he had edged out his friends for the honor at a school he enjoyed attending.

The Buffalo Business First newspaper found that only 3.7 percent of the children in the Voorheesville district live below the federally designated poverty line.

A headhunter wooed Dr. Thomas Reardon from Voorheesville Elementary to the superintendent position at Wynantskill Union Free School District in Rensselaer County. Reardon will begin his new duties in July.

Voters also passed a $22.8 million Voorheesville school budget and a $1.1 million library budget.

Police say David Cardona, Shane Parry, Robert Denman, and Ian Kundel — all varsity athletes — entered the school through an unlocked window and made a mess on April 24.

Between two candidates for two school board seats, the person with the most votes will fill a four-year term, and the person with the second most will take a three-year position.

The melting of snow each spring brings a sense of joy back to town, and also uncovers debris and disrepair once hidden beneath the icy blanket.  For many members of our community, especially the elderly, the required maintenance of spring-cleaning is simply unmanageable alone.
