Actors are preparing for opening performances of “Romeo and Juliet” and “Treasure Island” this weekend as part of the Helderberg Theater festival at Indian Ladder Farms.

One of the most enduring and popular musicals of the last half-century — and some think one of the most meaningful — will receive a 2016 treatment in a new production staged in Rensselaerville the next three weekends.

RENSSELAERVILLE — A set of three short stories will be brought to life, narrated by three New York City actors in the historic Conkling Hall at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15.

Sweet cakes, pies, and other treats made by community members will be proffered with coffee at the performance, titled “Shorts and Sweets.”

The diverse boyhood Leon Rothenberg had in Altamont led to a career on two coasts manipulating sound.
