The parades through Voorheesville, Berne, and Knox Monday honored the lives of local men who died at war, featuring a large number of surviving veterans to uphold the ceremony.

Memorial Day parades in Voorheesville and the Hilltowns over the holiday weekend brought a spectacle enjoyed by large crowds lining the streets, with music, gun salutes, and rarely seen vehicles.

In the last week, veterans were acknowledged and fallen soldiers were remembered in separate ceremonies in Altamont, for Loyalty Day and the Memorial Day parade.

Children trailing colorful balloons carted picture books down Helderberg Trail in wagons and wheelbarrows, accompanied by their relatives, to the new home of the Berne Public Library on Oct. 19. They ran, rode, and strolled from the old library at Town Hall to their resting place inside the former St.

Men marched and fire trucks rolled — they came from all across Albany County — down Altamont's Main Street Saturday. The day, which ended with a picnic, was a celebration of volunteerism

Firefighters will return to the village to share and celebrate. The public is encouraged to join in the festivities.
