Two of the six IDA members voted to grant real-estate relief to local businessman Jonathan Phillips to help with his construction project of building a new, bigger hardware store and adding a convenience store with gas pumps, at the corner of Routes 146 and 158.

Phillips Hardware

A study done for the IDA by Camoin Associates looked at demand for hardware in the area and found that, while the area is already well served by stores selling building materials and supplies, Phillips is able to provide a higher level of customer service and to offer unique services such as small-engine repair. The study said this should help Phillips reach a market that larger big-box stores cannot.

Jonathan Phillips still hopes to build a sports dome near his hardware store — and he has received town approval to do so — but that part of his project is on hold for now. He hopes to revisit it later, if he has the financing, he told The Enterprise earlier.

Pyramid’s proposed housing complex would create 150 construction jobs and six permanent jobs — three skilled, and three unskilled, according to the application.

Defeated in his bid for a seat on the school board, Sean Maguire joins the Industrial Development Agency, and retired state worker Darrell A. McKnight takes over the late David Bosworth’s seat on the Environmental Conservation Advisory Council.

Guilderland’s Industrial Development Agency gives Pyramid Companies part of what they asked for.
