A county legislator is looking to secure $3,000 from a grant to bring back summer recreation programs for youth to the towns of Westerlo and Rensselaerville. Should the grant not be accepted, the legislator, Chris Smith, has said he will give up two months of his pay to support the program.

ALBANY COUNTY — As a newcomer to politics and a native to the Hilltowns, Christopher Smith is proud of spending his life in the rural community of East Berne and Warners Lake.

At 34, he now has a family and three businesses, one of them the large restaurant Maple on the Lake.
