The Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy is working to keep a piece of New Scotland open space just that.

For well over a decade, the former Bender melon farm in New Scotland has languished on the market for the princely sum of $4 million. Now, the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy has the opportunity to purchase the 198-acre property for about a quarter of list price, but still well over the full-market assessment of under $800,000 on the county tax rolls.

NEW SCOTLAND — An application for a mixed-use development off of Route 85A and Route 85, near the site of the old Bender Melon farm, was again tabled at the planning board meeting last Tuesday.

The now vacant land was the center of a controversy eight years ago when The Sphere Group had said it would build a 750,000 square-foot mall.
