NEW SCOTLAND — Virginia Becker, a grandmother who liked to crochet, cook, and party, died peacefully at her New Scotland home on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016. She was 81.

She was born on April 16, 1935 in Albany, the daughter of Elmer and Martha (née Tallman) Van Alstyne.

“Virginia loved to crochet and was a wonderful cook; she also loved a good party,” her family wrote in a tribute.

Her husband of 32 years, Frank Becker Jr., died in 2007.

She is survived by her daughter Deborah (Barnes) and son-in-law Kenneth Storm; her sister-in-law, Alice Becker Haskell; her grandchildren Ronald Jr. and Lawrence Frank Le Favour Sr.; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Sept. 2, from 9 to 10 a.m. with a service to follow at 10 a.m. at Fredendall Funeral Home at 199 Main St. in Altamont. Interment will be at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in New Salem. Mourners may leave condolences online at at www.fredendallfuneralhome.com.
