ALTAMONT —  David Crounse, a Vietnam veteran who worked as a police detective, died on Saturday, June 18, 2016. He was 70.

The son of the late Chester and Thelma Crounse, he was raised in Altamont and graduated from Guilderland High School. A Vietnam veteran, Mr. Crounse was one of the first soldiers from the Capital Region to be injured in the war.  He received a Purple Heart.

Mr. Crounse was an Albany Police detective, who retired and moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida.

“He was a hard worker and enjoyed gardening,” his family wrote in a tribute. “He loved dogs and all his dogs were rescued from the shelter.  David was also a huge Elvis Presley fan.”

David Crounse is survived by his children, Michael Crounse and Aaron, Lisa Crounse, David Crounse, and Jennifer Long and her husband, Robert; his grandchildren, Crystal, Ashley, Riley, and Vanessa; his brothers, Bob and Frank; his sister, Diane; and his niece and nephew.

A service will be held at the Altamont Evangelical Lutheran Church at 140 Maple Ave. in the village on July 22 at 1:30 p.m.
