Voorheesville Library Notes for Friday, July 1, 2016

On Wednesday, July 6, join us for a matinee starting at 2 p.m. In a world where dinosaurs and humans live side-by-side, an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. This film is rated PG, and runs for 93 minutes. Don’t forget popcorn will be served.

Bricks and blocks

Builders in grades four and up are invited to join us on Thursday, July 7, at 6:30 p.m.  to “Get Building!”  With our LEGO bricks and Minecraft blocks on the laptops, you can create anything that you can imagine. Use LEGO Movie Maker on the iPads to make your own stop-motion movie. Please register online to reserve your spot.

Teen tech time and Makerspace

Middle and high schoolers in grades six and up can use their imagination on Friday, July 8, at 2 p.m. to make something high-tech or low-tech. Use the Leap Motion, the 3D scanner, or 3D printer with our laptops. Tackle a building challenge in Minecraft, or program our new Ozobots. Fabric and craft supplies will also be on hand if you want to use the sewing machines or create something handmade. Please register, space is limited.

Visit Graystone Stables

Children in kindergarten through grade three will meet Mrs. Brown at the stables on Monday, July 11, at 2 p.m., for an introduction to the wonderful world of horses and the sport of horseback riding. Directions to the stable will be provided to all online registrants.

Garden discussion

Our gardens should be thriving this time of year. Come to a discussion on Tuesday, July 12 at 7 p.m., to brainstorm solutions for challenges you are having in your garden, share your successes, and start and return, quote, or trade borrowed seeds. We will briefly review how to save seeds for those who are interested in contributing to the library. Bring in samples of vegetables or flowers you are growing, whether from the seed library collection or others. Identify seeds in our library collection for succession planting for the rest of the summer and into the fall. Local gardeners and Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners will facilitate the discussion and help answer questions. Beginner to advanced gardeners are welcome. Please register. Borrow, grow and share with the library.
