Capital Region BOCES inducts largest group ever into National Technical Honor Society

Fifty-seven Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society on Monday and six seniors were recognized for serving two years in the NTHS during a ceremony at the BOCES central administration offices.

To be honored, students had to meet several criteria, including achieving grade point averages of 92 or greater at Career & Tech, an overall GPA of 85 or greater at their high schools and had five or fewer absences.

The induction class was the largest ever at Capital Region BOCES, executive principal Denise Capece told a standing-room only crowd of inductees, parents, teachers, school administrators, and family members.

Local students were inducted from these schools:

— Berne-Knox-Westerlo: Andrew Amedio, criminal justice; Karley Audino, nurse assistant; Brandon Fortuin, culinary; Amanda Meehan, new visions health careers; and Savannah Wagoner, nurse assistant;

— Bethlehem: Noah Houghtaling, criminal justice; and Benjamin Kawczak, diesel technology;

— Duanesburg: Jacob Karandy, electrical trades; Brendon VanVlack, criminal justice; and Heidi Wenzel, nurse assistant;

— Guilderland: William Bedell, electrical trades, a second-year member of NTHS; Shaun Buerker, electrical trades; Matthew Cunningham,  building trades; Chanler Kanas, building trades; and Glenn MacDonald, automotive technology;

— Voorheesville: Christopher Brumley, building trades, a second-year member of NTHS; David Hansen, auto body; and Alexander LeClair, HVAC/R.
