Great Knox Campout kicks off summer

KNOX — The Knox Youth Council is hosting a day of family fun with a potluck supper, fireworks, and a campout at the Knox town park.

On Saturday, June 4, family activities will start at 2 p.m. There will be a bounce house, kickball game, scavenger hunt, face painting, craft projects, and more. The Albany County Sheriff’s Office will provide car-seat safety checks, and a patrol-car demonstration.

Four hours later, campers will eat a potluck supper with fireworks at 9 p.m. and a campout to follow. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be provided for the supper. Those whose last names begin with a letter at the start of the alphabet, A to L, are to bring food for the start of the meal — appetizers. Those whose last names start with letters that end the alphabet, M to Z, are to bring meal-ending sweets — desserts.

Activities continue through the evening with a bonfire and bring-your-own-s’mores. Fireworks are being provided courtesy of Senator George Amedore, Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple, Albany County legislators Chris Smith and Travis Stevens, and Knox Town Supervisor Vasilios Lefkaditis.

The town park is located in the hamlet of Knox at 2192 Berne-Altamont Rd.

For those who plan to pitch a tent and camp out, advanced registration is required by Tuesday, May 31.  Contact Knox Youth Council Coordinator Maryellen Gillis at for a registration form. No registration is necessary for activities other than camping out.

A donation is suggested of $5 per person with a maximum of $20 per family maximum and children under 5 free. Please also bring a canned good to support local food pantries and families.
