You can now watch taped county committee meetings
To the Editor:
In April of 2015, I introduced a resolution that would provide a new opportunity for Albany County residents to watch their county government in action. The proposal was to videotape legislative committee meetings and make them available online for everyone to view. This opportunity was made possible by the cooperation of the hardworking employees of the county, the legislature, and the county executive.
The committee process is where proposals are debated, tabled, or advanced to the full legislature for consideration. The committee process also provides the best opportunity for legislators to deliberate and discuss resolutions and local laws. Very few, if any, citizens attend these meetings as most are held in the early evening.
Although it’s been almost a year, I’m pleased to let you know that this proposal has finally come to fruition. Meeting tapes are now available for you to watch. I hope you take the opportunity to learn more about Albany County government and the committee process by logging on to the county website at http://www.albanycounty.com/legislature/meetingarchives.aspx
I have always been a proponent of open government and will continue efforts to make sure all Albany County residents have access to the Albany County Legislature and government.
