Agnes Graffeo

GUILDERLAND — Agnes Theresa Graffeo (née Marotta), a loving wife and mother, died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 19, 2016, after spending an evening celebrating her birthday with her family. She was 88.

“The love and care of her husband and family was the focus of her life,” her family wrote in a tribute.

“She took terrific care of her husband of almost 67 years,” her daughter, Victoria Graffeo, said.

Mrs. Graffeo was born in Brooklyn on March 18, 1928, to the late Peter and Rosaria Marotta. She wed Edward M. Graffeo, and was his devoted wife. The couple lived in Guilderland for more than 50 years.

“She lovingly raised her family for over 50 years,” her family wrote.

“The light of her life were her five granddaughters,” said her daughter. “She was very proud of their accomplishments.”

Mrs. Graffeo worked as a secretary for various insurance agencies.

“She enjoyed attending events at the Hilton Boyd VFW in Altamont,” her daughter said. “She was a member of the auxiliary for years.”

Mrs. Graffeo was a faithful communicant at Christ the King Church.

“She and her husband were daily mall walkers, and will be fondly remembered by friends at Crossgates,” her family wrote.

Agnes Graffeo was the adored mother of Victoria Graffeo; Andrea Graffeo; Christina Hippchen and her husband, Thomas; and Paul Graffeo and his wife, Jennifer. She was the proud grandmother to Ashley, Sarah, and Rachael Degnan; and Theresa and Laura Graffeo. She was an aunt to Ann Wick; and Clare Hayes and her husband, John.

Her sister, Carmella, married to Michael Lattanzi, died before her, as did her niece, Lucille Lattanzi.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday at Christ the King Church, in Guilderland. The family received guests at a reception in the church immediately following the Mass. Burial followed at Saratoga National Cemetery.
