Voorheesville Library Notes for Friday, February 19, 2016
On Friday, Feb. 19, at 10:30 a.m., the Voorheesville Public Library will be showing a current PG film about your favorite despicable sidekicks, who have existed since the beginning of time. They have evolved from single (yellow) cell organisms into the familiar beings we know, and they live for a collective purpose: to seek out and serve the most despicable master they can find. (91 minutes)
Nimblefingers month
The Nimblefingers ladies have done it again, filling the library with dozens and dozens of original, hand-crafted items. The walls are covered, the display case is bursting at the seams, and the hall gallery is filled to capacity. Stop by and see what your neighbors have crafted. While you’re here, be sure to vote for your favorite design in the table-runner challenge. If you are interested in joining the group, everyone is welcome! They meet every Tuesday at 1 p.m., at the library to discuss textile arts, work on projects, get helpful advice from fellow crafters and enjoy some delicious snacks.
Clifford’s Happy Birthday! story program
How would you like to visit with Clifford and wish him a happy birthday? Well, you can do just that on Feb. 20. Barbara Lukas from WMHT and Clifford the Big Red Dog will be paying a special visit to the library at 10:15 a.m. Come enjoy some Clifford books, watch a Clifford episode, make a Clifford puppet, sing Clifford happy birthday, eat a piece of birthday cake, and take a photo with our special doggie pal, Clifford! Children ages preschool through grade two and their families should register online or sign up the next time they are at the library.
Starting seedlings indoors
Are you interested in growing some of your own fruits and vegetables this summer? The library is partnering with some local master gardeners to bring you all the information you will need to start and grow your own vegetable garden. The first program in this series is Starting Seedlings Indoors. Registration is requested for this program on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. You will learn when to start different kinds of vegetable seeds indoors and about indoor lighting and heating equipment that you can use to start your garden. Explore seeds from the library's seed collection. There will be a roundtable discussion led by Cornell Cooperative Extension Service master gardeners and local gardener Sharon Miller. Watch for another upcoming program, Planning your Vegetable Garden, coming to the library in April.
Healthy lifestyle
Join us on March 1, at 6 p.m., for the first in a series of healthy lifestyles programs. This fun, interactive workshop will get you started on the path to eating right and provide strategies to reduce mindless eating. Online registration is requested or stop by the library to sign up in person.
