My boat windows were shot, my packages taken, and my mailbox knocked down
To the Editor:
Greetings from the Hilltops. I am writing this letter to make people more aware of their surroundings.
I have lived on Knox Cave Road for over 25 years. I can honestly say I really have very wonderful, helpful close neighbors.
Lately, there have been some strange things going on around our area. As we all know, it is hunting season.
Many landowners have their land posted to forbid hunting and trespassing.
I have belonged to the American Rifle Association for several years. I also have a legal pistol permit. I don’t shoot deer. I enjoy watching them in the woods and countryside.
I let a select few hunters hunt on my property. For some reason this year we have people coming and hunting around these posted properties.
Someone decided to do target practice on all of the windshields of my boat, which I don’t think was very nice.
The area is off limits to anyone without my permission. The Albany County Sheriff’s Office has been notified as well as the New York State Police.
In the olden days, we never locked our homes or cars. I suppose this does not matter: If they want to destroy property, they will.
I hope whomever did this has a conscience.
In some way, it will come back to get you. Always remember: What goes around, comes around.
If this is your idea of fun, I don’t think it is very funny.
I also had packages come to my home that have disappeared. I am a very trusting and good neighbor who is glad to help anyone I can.
I am a senior citizen and it seems we are always hearing terrible bad things in the news. I stopped receiving my mail at the house because my mailbox has been knocked down in the past years.
Well, I close for now and hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a better New Year.
Freda L. Bates, Knox
