WESTERLO – Helen M. Hempstead, an international representative for a local company who was active in her sons’ lives, died on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at her home. She was 72.

Mrs. Hempstead was born in Albany on June 23, 1943, to John E. and Huldah Mae Chase Homeyer. She grew up in Voorheesville and graduated from school there.

Mrs. Hempstead worked as an international representative for Spaulding & Rogers in New Scotland, and also worked as a demonstrator for Friendly Home Parties.

Mrs. Hempstead lived in Arkansas for 10 years, before returning to the area in 2009.

Mrs. Hempstead is survived by her sons, Stanley R. Sisson, and his wife, Tina; Steven R. Sisson; Bryan J. Sisson; and Frank D. Hempstead Jr., and his wife, Charity; her grandchildren, Andrew, Sean, Travis, Breanna, Nicole, Alysha, Sabrina, Trevor, Hannah, and Franklin III; her siblings, Sandra Winters, Mark, Philip and Stanley Homeyer; and several nieces and nephews. 

Mrs. Hempstead’s parents, John E. and Huldah Mae Chase Homeyer, died before her, as did her husbands, Leland Sisson and Franklin Hempstead, and her siblings, John Homeyer and Roxanne Ciaccia.

Calling hours will be Friday, Oct. 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.  The funeral will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Berne. Mourners may make online condolences at ajcunninghamfh.com.
