NEW SCOTLAND — The New Scotland Historical Association will be accepting suggestions and nominations of historical sites within the town that may be worthy of a historical marker. 

The association seeks to follow its mission to “preserve, protect and promote history in the town of New Scotland.”  One way the group promotes the town’s history is through the placement of historical markers.

After a site is nominated for historic recognition and designation, its qualifications will be reviewed by the association’s officers, trustees, and committee chairs.  Primary resources validating a location’s history will be assessed along with all other evidence supporting historical-marker assignment.

Historical markers are great tools for educating the public about the town’s role in local history, and the part this community played in the formation of America.  Roadside historical markers are convenient learning devices for motorists and often spark further conversations about history for both adults and children.  These historic sites lead to a better understanding of our ancestors and what their daily lives were like.
