Drive through history, find places you didn’t know existed
GUILDERLAND — Guilderland’s 1802 Mynderse-Frederick House’s front door will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, for an open house, sponsored by the Guilderland Historical Society and the Guilderland Garden Club.
You’re invited to our event as we seek to encourage people to take a driving tour around our town to notice historic sites they had previously overlooked or never knew existed. It is part of a Path Through History weekend organized by the Albany County Historical Association collaborative of Albany County’s local historical societies.
Visitors to the historic Mynderse-Frederick House at 451 Route 146 in Guilderland Center will receive a free tour guide of historic sites to be found on Guilderland’s roads. The guide is for your reference with the hope that, while you may not spend time taking an actual driving tour, you’ll have information about places or historic markers you pass frequently, giving you a new appreciation of your town’s past.
During the open house, there will be a brief slide show at intervals to acquaint visitors with scenes that have disappeared from our local roads. Tours of the Mynderse-Frederick House will also be given. Members of the Guilderland Garden Club will be on hand to discuss the award-winning garden they have created in front of the Mynderse-Frederick House.
Stop by for just five minutes to pick up your tour guide or come visit for an hour or so and get acquainted with the town’s historical society and garden club. For more information, call 861-8582.
