Photos: Health help in an emergency

Practice makes perfect: Last Thursday afternoon, at the Cornell Cooperative Extension in New Scotland, members of the Albany County Department of Health held a drill to practice responding to any biological or airborne attacks that might occur. As part of the drill, two women, in green vests, take down a participant’s information on what symptoms he has so that they can dispense the correct medication.

Getting the word out: If there were a real emergency, the Department of Health would contact Albany County residents to tell them the locations of Points Of Dispensing sites, known as PODs; times and locations would be publicized by television, newspaper, radio, and social media reports and through community partners. Here, a volunteer, left, gets help from a medical evaluator standing next to her as they relay information to a team of medical staff to get information about the person and her symptoms.

Corroborating information: A Certification of Disability Management Specialist manager, left, works with a health evaluator and a pharmacist to get the right information from this volunteer during the annual training exercise for a Points Of Dispensing drill at the Cornell Cooperative Extension in New Scotland last Thursday afternoon.
