Edward G. Sellnow Jr.

VOORHEESVILLE — Edward G. Sellnow Jr., a husband, father, and grandfather, died Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Guilderland Nursing Home. He was 77.

Mr. Sellnow was the son of Edward G. Sellnow Sr. and Dorothea Ochse.

Mr. Sellnow worked at the University at Albany for 40 years, where he worked as a stationary engineer, and retired in 2002. He was a member of both the Voorheesville American Legion and the Altamont Masonic Lodge.

In his spare time, he loved to go camping, hunting, and fishing, said his wife of 36 years, Lorraine Bowen Sellnow.

He also enjoyed family picnics every summer.

“He was so proud of his two sons and the men they became and he adored his four grandchildren,” said Mrs. Sellnow.

She described her husband as a “friendly, fun-loving man who liked to make people laugh.”

In addition to his wife, Mr. Sellnow is survived by his sons, Edward G. Sellnow, III, of Galway (Saratogo Co.), and Michael D. Sellnow and his wife, Kathleen, of Rotterdam; his grandchildren, Abigail, Emma, Lucas, and Mason Sellnow; his brother, Paul Sellnow, of Richmondville (Schoharie Co.); his sisters, Carol Elmendorf and her husband, Kenneth, of Altamont, and Joan Lighthart and her husband, Chuck, of Middleburgh (Schoharie Co.); and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 19, at 11 a.m. at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home in Voorheesville. Burial will be in Memory’s Garden Cemetery in Colonie. Calling hours were held Monday.
