Thoracic surgeon Walter Scott, M.D., appointed associate professor of surgery at Albany Medical College, and cardiothoracic surgeon Li Zhang, M.D., also appointed assistant professor of surgery, have joined Albany Medical Center’s Faculty Physicians’ group. The fellowship-trained surgeons are now seeing patients on Albany Medical Center’s main campus.

Scott specializes in general thoracic surgery and thoracic oncology, and performs minimally invasive robotic procedures and video-assisted thoracic surgery, as well as open procedures. He received his medical degree from the University of Virginia and completed two residencies, one in surgery at the University of North Carolina and one in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Utah. He is board-certified in both thoracic and cardiothoracic surgery.

Dr. Zhang specializes in treating patients with coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, aortic disease, and heart failure, among other conditions. He performs total arterial revascularization for coronary artery disease, minimally invasive aortic valve replacement, and left ventricular assist device implantation.

Zhang received his medical degree from Shanghai Medical University. He completed a residency in cardiac surgery at the University of Manitoba and two fellowships in cardiothoracic surgery, one at the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute and one at The Cleveland Clinic. He currently has a patent pending on a device to aid blood flow to the heart when the coronary artery is blocked.
