Altamont tries again to update its comprehensive plan
ALTAMONT — Altamont is once again attempting to kickstart the process of updating its first but now two-decade-old comprehensive land-use plan.
Mayor Kerry Dineen made the announcement during the village board’s April meeting.
Dineen said, “The comprehensive plan is starting back up again, and I’ve reached out, waiting for responses.”
The village first made an announcement about updating the plan in November 2022 — right around the time Guilderland announced it was updating its own plan, which the town has since updated, adopted, and is now incorporating into its zoning law — that went nowhere.
An alert seeking committee members sent out to subscribers of the village’s Nixel alert system in May 2024 also went nowhere.
On April 14, as she was making the announcement, Dineen was asked to summarize where the village was in the process.
Dineen described a committee that had begun strong but thinned out — and a workload heavier than a volunteer panel could carry on its own.
“The Comprehensive Plan committee started out and was going along strong, but lost some members along the way,” Dineen said. “We noticed with the work that has to be done that we need more help from a consultant to do that.”
