To the Editor:

It may come as a surprise to some, but there are those of us who think the behavior and policies of the current president, his administration and the republicans in congress are unconstitutional and not in the best interests of the American people [Letter to the Altamont Enterprise editor: “Were local ‘No Kings’ protests actually funded by big-money special interests?” April 2, 2026]

And guess what! We are more than willing to protest on behalf of our democracy for free and contribute our own hard-earned time and money to do so.

It also amazes me that there are those who think it is OK to go to war totally unprepared on a whim, to build concentration camps across the country where people can be held without due process, to decimate public health problems, cancel medical research, fire experts in cybersecurity and foreign intelligence, undo the environmental progress of the last 50 years and end a program that protects veterans homes from foreclosure resulting in over 10,000 veterans losing their homes.

The list is long and troubling.

And by the way — this is not “Trump’s America,” Mr. Tolmie.
