A Madewell store, which sells denim clothes and accessories, will open in Stuyvesant Plaza this year.

GUILDERLAND — Madewell, a national chain that sells denim clothes and accessories, will open its first store in the Capital Region in Stuyvesant Plaza later this year.

Madewell will fill the former site of The Book House, which relocated to its original home within Stuyvesant Plaza, located between Sur La Table and Athleta.

Part of the J.Crew Group, the company operates 154 Madewell stores nationwide and is available at madewell.com and with select wholesale partners, as of January 2024.

“The arrival of Madewell adds to our carefully curated mix of national and local retailers,” said Rachel Ferluge, general manager of Stuyvesant Plaza, in a release.

Launched in 2006, Madewell uses sustainably sourced materials, Fair Trade Certified products, and circularity programs, including a denim trade-in initiative that has collected and recycled more than one million pairs of jeans, the release said.

The plaza is owned by Massachusetts-based WS Development, which owns, operates, and leases more than 100 properties.
