Driscoll to speak on one-room schoolhouse
The Helderberg Kiwanis restored the Knox-New Scotland school district schoolhouse on the Emma Thacher Nature Center grounds. Daniel Driscoll will talk about the restoration, interviews with former students, and the records of school board meetings from 1824 to 1905.
The program will be presented on Tuesday, May 5, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. by the New Scotland Historical Association at the Wyman Osterhout Community Center off of Route 85 in New Salem. The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call 765-4212.
Driscoll is a member of the association, as well as the Knox Historical Society, The Helderberg Kiwanis Club, Friends of Thacher State Park, and the Patroon Land Foundation.
He has a Ph.D. in electrical and biomedical engineering, and taught electrical engineering at Union College for about 10 years, and then worked as a noise-control engineer for the DEC and the Public Service Commission from 1977 to 2000.
His special interests include local history and music — playing the French horn, recorder, and flute.
