Edward F. White
SUMMERFIELD, Fla. — Edward Floyd White, a World War II veteran, was a skilled machinist who became a plant manager. A kind and patient man, he loved traveling with his wife.
He died peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, in Summerfield, Florida. He was 98.
He was born on Aug. 5, 1927, in Hudson Falls, New York, to Floyd C. White and Jennie E. Perry Purdy.
“Ed graduated from Hudson Falls High School after proudly serving in the United States Army during World War II,” his family wrote in a tribute. “He later graduated from the New York State Agricultural & Technical Institute in Canton, New York.
“In 1967, he moved to Altamont, New York, where he and his family built their home. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family camping, bowling, playing pinochle, and entertaining his grandchildren.
“Ed retired from Environment One in Niskayuna, New York, in 1989 after a long and successful career as a skilled machinist, pattern maker, tool maker, and later plant manager. He took great pride in the many projects he completed for major corporations, where his skill and expertise contributed to their success.
“Following retirement, Ed and his wife moved to Florida to enjoy their retirement years. During that time, they loved traveling to many places across the country and going on cruises with friends and family.
“Ed especially enjoyed taking guests out for boat rides to explore the many nearby lakes and tributaries, and he never needed to be asked twice to go to the beach. He always had a smile on his face, and his kindness and patience will be remembered by all who knew him.
“He was a member of the American Legion in Bradenton, Florida, and a past member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.”
