Questions about Guilderland committees

To the Editor:

Do members of Guilderland committees receive compensation? Are committee members required to attend meetings?

Why did Patricia Slavick call in to her Traffic Committee meeting when town residents are not offered call in participation?

Where were the Traffic Committee members that were not present at the Jan. 13 Traffic Committee meeting? Why does the town website lack information about the enabling act capabilities of the committees?

Residents deserve to know what the Traffic Committee can and cannot do before we have to leave our homes to attend town meetings that even committee members will not attend.

Where were these committee members: Amanda Beedle, town board liaison; Kevin McDonald, town board liaison; Brian Wilson, member; and Heather Murphy, member?

Editor’s note: Town board liaisons Amanda Beedle and Kevin McDonald and committee members Heather Murphy and Brian Wilson were all present at the Jan. 13 Traffic Safety Committee meeting. Murphy and Wilson were seated at the dais, as evidenced on the video posted on the town website, while the liaisons were seated in the gallery since there is not room on the dais.

Patricia Slavick was allowed to call into the meeting when residents cannot because the state’s Open Meetings Law establishes two methods for allowing members of a public body to participate in a meeting by videoconferencing.
