Why is Knox not included in county’s broadband roll-out?
To the Editor:
I just read the headline in the October 30 issue, “$3.2M to bring broadband to last of unserved in Albany County.”
Problem is, this isn’t accurate. Knox is not included.
There are many people in the town of Knox without any kind of reliable internet access at all, much less broadband. I live in one of these dead zones.
About 10 to 20 percent of the time I can’t connect to the internet at all. I also can’t count on making a call on my cell phone.
This is ironic, given that the Knox Broadband Committee did much of the legwork to make this project possible.
Will it be another 10 years before internet service is brought to Knox? Why is Knox not included?

Knox
Editor’s note: Asked why Knox was not included, Mary Rozak, spokeswoman for the Albany County Executive’s Office, said, “Knox along with a number of other municipalities in the northern half of the county were originally part of our community partnership program.” But, she said, Empire State Development determined it would rather use the federal Broadband Equity Access and Deployment program to cover the top half of the county and removed those municipalities, including Knox, from the county’s application.
