BETHLEHEM — On Saturday evening, a three-way crash on I-87 near Exit 23 in Bethlehem left a woman dead.
Claudia Hargis-Grover, 63, of Glens Falls was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release from State Police.
William F. McAllister, 37, of Ringgold, Virginia was charged with multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
State Police say events unfolded this way.
At about 4:44 p.m., McAllister was driving a 2011 Chevrolet sedan fast, heading north in the left lane, when he tried to move into the right lane, sideswiping a pickup truck on the driver’s side.
McAllister then veered back into the left lane, rear-ending a 2025 Chevrolet sedan driven by Hargis-Grover.
McAllister came to a stop on the east shoulder while Haargis-Grover’s car stopped on the west shoulder. Her passenger was taken to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck and its passenger were both taken to Albany Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
McAllister was given a field sobriety test, showing no signs of impairment, and a preliminary breath test, which was negative for the presence of alcohol. He was taken to Albany Medical Center for medical evaluation.
The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is continuing the investigation.
