Join a tradition: Run in or volunteer for the Altamont 5K

To the Editor:

Tradition is an important part of our society. Without it, what would we look forward to each year, month, or even day?

The Altamont 5K Run/Walk has become one of those traditions that has flourished over the years and brings out a sense of community and fun for all ages.

On Saturday, Aug. 23, the 27th edition of the Altamont 5K will take place at Crupe Bozenkill Park on Gun Club Road here in Altamont.

Hard to believe we started in 1998 as a small local race at the Altamont fairgrounds with just 99 lacing up their shoes to take on the challenge.

Over our 26 years, we had an average of over 300 each year attend before COVID; we have been rebuilding ever since. Last year, we saw over 170 sign up to take part in the event.

This year should be even better.

The Altamont 5K will feature T-shirts, door prizes, lots of refreshments, music, and more.

If you are interested in running or walking go to bit.ly/4lrm0kb to enter.

Registering online will save you money; race day, the fee goes up for in-person registration.

You can visit our website at www.altamont5k.org for more details.

We will be accepting payment by check, cash, or Venmo on race day.

The Altamont 5K helps local food pantries and The Caring Closet.

Hope to see many of you there as a participant or volunteer — or just be there for the fun.

Note: We are in need of 10 to 12 more volunteers — email altamont5k@nycap.rr.com if you wish to help out. This is a great source of service hours for those in school. No experience is needed.
