Photos: Local Teams Will Send 21 To NYS Championships

This past Thursday and Friday, June 5 and 6, members of the Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Bethlehem, Guilderland, and Voorheesville track teams looked to qualify for the New York State Championships, if they hadn’t gotten the super standard to automatically qualify, in Middletown High School this Friday and Saturday. Twenty-one students qualified, which included six relay teams.

All his might: Bulldogs’ Christian Arsenault uses his strength to prepare to release his shot during his first attempt. Arsenault finished in sixth in Class C with a distance of 39 feet, 2.50 inches.

Kicking it over: Guilderland’s Jeanne Lu clears the hurdle in her 100-meter hurdle portion of the Class A pentathlon. Lu finished second in the hurdles with a time of 16.29 seconds and second overall with 2513 points.

Blackbird soars: Voorheesville’s Hailey Murphy leaps over the hurdle in the 100-meter hurdle portion of the Class C pentathlon. Murphy finished sixth with a time of 19.08 seconds and fourth with 2082 points.

Grant already qualified for states, Tynan in 9th with a time of 2:24.87, Bannigan in 6th with a time of 2:18.72, Beyer in 7th with a time of 2:19.14, and Chrapowitky in 4th with a time of 2:18.02.

Battle for states: Blackbirds’ Savannah Schmidt comes around the turn on the second lap of the 800-meters ahead of Eagles’ Anna Chrapowitzky and Guilderland’s Julia Beyer. Schmidt qualifies for states in Class C winning with a time of 2:19.00.
