Daniel P. O’Connell
BERNE — Daniel P. O’Connell, who owned a plumbing business and served as an inspector for federal disasters, valued most of all time spent with his family.
He died peacefully and surrounded by family on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. He was “72 years young,” his family wrote.
He was born on Sept. 11, 1952, in Albany, the beloved son of John and Margaret (née McCauley) O’Connell. He graduated from Christian Brothers Academy and earned an associate degree from Hudson Valley Community College.
He traveled throughout the United States and its territories as an inspector when federal disasters were declared.
“Dan was well-known for his business, O’Connell Brothers Plumbing and Heating,” his family wrote in a tribute. “He was skilled in many areas, and he was generous with his time and knowledge.
“Dan was a shining light to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was an avid reader and outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, and he was passionate about traditional archery.
“Dan was a proud member of the West Albany Rod and Gun Club, the Mohawk Hudson Traditional Archers and was previously a member of the Robinwood Hunting Club in Long Lake. Dan’s annual trips to Pennsylvania to attend the Eastern Traditional Archery Rendezvous brought him great joy.
“Most of all, Dan loved making people happy. He was the best storyteller, and, boy, did he make people laugh. The stories and words of wisdom he shared will be treasured by all.
“His favorite pastime was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He looked forward to his birthday seafood boils, family gatherings, and having archery competitions with his grandson.
“Throughout the years, Dan loved animals, especially his dogs. He was often found at the Berne-Knox-Westerlo track with his golden retriever at his side.”
