EAST BERNE — Diane R. “Mimi” Michaels of East Berne died peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025. She was 79.

Born on July 3, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Sophie Michaels.

“Diane cared for patients at Marcy’s Nursing Home, later worked in clerical for New York State, then as an independent house cleaner, lastly retiring with the New York State Thruway Authority,” her family wrote in a tribute.

“Diane was a member of Rock Road Chapel, where she also enjoyed volunteering her time. Diane enjoyed cooking and baking, and taking day trips with her partner, Ike.”

She is survived by her loving partner, Isaac Conklin; her daughter, Julie Aviza; her brothers, Daniel (Shirley) Michaels and Dennis Michaels; and her two grandchildren, Timothy and Erin McIntyre. 

She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Nancy Michaels and Anne Hallenback; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and by her extended family, Monica Conklin, Alex Hrvatin, Richard Conklin, and Amanda and Jay Miller and their children.

Her sister, Darlene (Roy) Ketzler, died before her, as did her brothers, Dean Michaels and Douglas Michaels. 

A service was held on Jan. 10 at Rock Road Chapel in Berne. Interment will be in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery in Berne.

“Special thanks to Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital, Pastor Jay Francis, Rock Road Chapel Family, and Helderberg Ambulance,” her family wrote.
