To the Editor:

Just wanted to give a shout out to a growing tradition in our neighborhood. The Guilderland Y hosts a Diwali Festival each year about this time.

The primarily Hindu cultural celebration (though other faiths participate, too) is a remarkable mix of bright colors, traditional dress, dance, song and food, along with candle lighting. All the festivals at the Y I have seen are well attended and filled with spirit and good cheer.

The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. Isn't that something people of all faiths can celebrate?

My thanks to all those who made the Nov. 9 event a success, including Diwali organizers and the Y's Lisa Wolcott and staff for hosting. Be sure to check it out next fall!
