No mention of the needs of disabled in comprehensive plan

To the Editor:

Are there any residents of this town with a heart to look at how the town leadership excludes children and adults with disabilities? If so, would you please look at the draft of the Town of Guilderland Comprehensive Plan?

How could M.J. Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Land Surveying, P.C. Community Planning & Environmental Associates E.M. Pemrick & Co write about our town parks, recreation, sidewalks, land use, housing, and recreation and not notice the exclusionary conduct of the town boards and committees that harm people with disabilities?

How could they omit any reference to including persons with disabilities?

I was not born disabled. Like most readers, I went to work one day thinking about paying my bills, caring for my family, participating in my community — then I fell at work and joined the disability pool where I feel non-disabled pee in the water.

Being disabled from a workplace injury can happen to the most cautious employee. Don’t think an injury could not happen to you. I still think about paying my bills, caring for my family, and participating in my community.  I pay town taxes just like you.

So how did it come to pass that the Comprehensive Planning Committee and consultants are allowed to be so blatantly discriminatory by making no mention of needs and inclusion of disabled in the comprehensive plan?
