Anthony Moretti, 35, of Albany, is the man whose body New York State Police retrieved from a wooded area in Knox last month, after it was originally found by a passerby. 

Although authorities believed they knew Moretti’s identity shortly after news of the discovery broke in August, they were awaiting DNA confirmation to announce his identity.

Based on the condition of the body, which had been at the bottom of steep terrain, Moretti likely died there sometime in the fall of last year, according to a press release from the state police. He had not been reported missing, and his last contact with his family was in October, 2023, the release said.

Trooper Stephanie O’Neill told The Enterprise that police do not yet know a cause of death, but that it “does not appear suspicious.” 

She noted that the Bozen Kill is in the vicinity where the body was found and attracts people for its “swimming, fishing, and other recreational” opportunities.
