Voorheesville man found dead
NEW SCOTLAND — A Voorheesville man who was initially reported missing, was found dead Wednesday.
George Klopfer, 70, of Voorheesville, had been missing since 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, when he was last seen riding his three-wheeled bike on the Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail, according to multiple news reports.
The Bethlehem Police in a Wednesday Facebook post said Klopfer had been found dead by members of the Albany County Sheriff's Office. His body was found off of Kensington Road in New Scotland, near the Albany County Rail Trail.
An Enterprise request for information was not returned by the sheriff's office.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday to determine the cause of his death.
Klopfer spent over three decades as an employee of the New Scotland Highway Department, retiring in 2015 . Superintendent Kenneth Guyer said at the time of Klopfer’s retirement that he was “an outstanding citizen and employee.”
